LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Player Paul Reubens was charged Fri with one misdemeanor count of possessing fabric depicting children engaged in sexual conduct, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney'southward Function said.

Reubens' chaser, Blair Berk, said the accuse, which stems from artwork seized from Reubens' Hollywood Hills habitation last yr, "is only untrue and without merit."

He said Reubens is being charged with "possession of material depicting children under the ages of 18 engaging in sexual comport as defined under California constabulary."

A publicist for the actor described the fabric in question as photographs.

Berk said the Los Angeles County District Attorney'south office found no grounds for bringing any charges after government seized artwork from his home last year. In Los Angeles, the district chaser handles felony charges, while the city attorney handles misdemeanor cases.

Berk said the urban center attorney'south part is now resuscitating a misdemeanor charge "on the very terminal day" that the statute would allow.

The district attorney's part referred all questions on the thing to the city attorney.
